Last year, there were an estimated 6.1 million incidents of crime experienced by adults in England and Wales. Almost every police force in the country recorded an increase in crime, with worrying rises in some of the most violent offences, including gun and knife crime and homicide.
The Tories’ cuts to the police are devastating our communities and leaving them completely exposed. Under the Tories, 21,000 police officers have been axed and recorded crime is rising at the fastest rate in a decade.
Violent crime as a whole has risen across the West Midlands. In only one year an extra 10,000 offences have been recorded.
Mr Simon said:
“Tory cuts are cuts are putting the public in danger. Cuts have consequences.
“I’m backing the call to properly fund policing. Crime is on the rise as police resources are squeezed more than ever by the Tories.
“Is it any wonder communities feel less safe than ever?”
